Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering Department at Navodaya Institute of Technology, Raichur, was established in the year 2010 with an intake of 60 students. The department has carved its niche in the areas of academics, consultancy, collaborative projects, and publications over the years. It has grown significantly in all respects and is recognised as one of the most reputed engineering departments in the region. It has developed strong links with the building and construction industry and the academia, across the state. With multi-faceted faculty members, it provides technical advisory support and oversight to all the massive NET construction projects. Besides these projects, the department also takes up consultancy work pertaining to Civil Engineering. There are versatile faculties in various specialisations such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering, concrete technology, highway engineering, geology, environmental engineering, CADD structure, construction management, and construction technology. The department is well equipped with laboratories, computing facilities, independent library and other infrastructure. The other departmental activities include planning, structural design of buildings, testing of materials, and soil investigation.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

To acquire sound knowledge in applied and basic engineering sciences, necessary to formulate and solve problems related to Civil Engineering.
To develop knowledge in experimentation, analysis and synthesis of Electronics & Communication Engineering courses to design/innovate and create novel products/solutions to real-life problems.
To inculcate managerial and entrepreneur skills, ethical and professional attitude, and multi-disciplinary approach to meet the needs of industry and society.
To recognize the need for further studies, research, ever learning to adopt oneself in the phase of changing technologies, and to ensure the students to succeed in engineering positions globally.

Program Outcomes (POs)

Engineering knowledge: apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and engineering specializations to the solution of complex engineering problems.
Problem analysis: identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions, using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
Design/development of solutions: design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health & safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
Conduct investigations of complex problems: use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
Modern tool usage: create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
The engineer and society: apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
Environment and sustainability: understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
Ethics: apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
Individual and team work: function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
