A one-day training program on ‘Disaster Management – First Aid’ was held at Navodaya Institute of Technology Raichur, on September 27, 2019, inaugurated by Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, Navodaya Education Trust Raichur. Dr. Mallikarjun, M V Principal Navodaya Institute of Technology, Raichur, Dr. Kumar VLS – team member, IRCS, NSARDR, State branch Bangalore, followed by addressing the students of Navodaya Institute of Technology Raichur.
Dr. Kumar VLS had guided about Disaster Act 2005, different types of disasters, and importance of first aid in various emergencies of life and had appreciated the initiative taken by Navodaya Institute of Technology Raichur. He appreciated the enthusiasm and support provided by the institute.
This program was conducted in two sessions 1st year students of Computer, Mechanical, Civil Engineering attended session enthusiastically.
Workshop started with an introduction about International Red Cross Society. Its aim, vision, mission, purpose, programs and activities carried out were explained by Dr. Kumar VLS. Morning and afternoon sessions were of 03 hours each, and sessions were divided in theory and practical phases. These session were focused on various aspects of disaster, Disaster Management Act, 2005, understanding of disaster management act for citizens of India, its awareness and importance, types of disasters [man made & natural], post disaster precaution and activities, importance of first aid, elements of first aid, use of first aid and benefits of carrying first kit during the travel, availability of first aid kit at home/workplace was also explained.
Practical sessions were about – Do & Don’ts during and after the disaster, demonstration of different rescue tools, use of these tools in different types of disasters [like flood, fire, forest fire, land slide, accident etc.], were demonstrated with the help of student volunteers. A group of students trained for such emergency situation. Precautions to be taken in helping victims, procedures to be followed after the arrival of medical team, transportation of victim to nearby medical facility and safe areas, were explained and demonstrated with the help of presentation. Essential contents of a first aid kit, effective use of kit to reduce medical complications in different disaster situations were demonstrated.
